FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE NEW PULSE IT ONLINE COMMUNITY:
CONNECTING TEEN READERS
WITH BOOKS, AUTHORS AND PEERS IN ONE LOCATION

Recognizing the paramount importance of social networking in the lives of today's teen readers, Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing and Simon & Schuster Digital are pleased to present the Pulse It website, a free, dedicated social networking site for teens ages 14-18 where members can not only read new S&S teen titles online, but also share their enthusiasm for books with fellow members of the site, communicate with authors, and use a wide variety of up-to-date digital tools to express their interests and opinions.

Teens can visit www.simonandschuster.com/pulseit to join the community. In addition to allowing members to read entire books online, Pulse It members can create their own customized personal profile (including uploading a photo, adding their areas of interest interests, and posting links to other media); write reviews and rank books; befriend other members and track their activities; create blog posts and participate in message board discussions: vote on polls; watch video book trailers and author interviews, share reviews with Facebook friends, and set up RSS feeds.

Pulse It members can read one book per month from a selection of two titles, and are allowed to preview the books before deciding which one they want to read. Books in the program will be a combination of titles that have just been released or are soon-to-be published, and members will have 60 days to read each book. The Pulse It Online Reader is designed to save the user's place in the book, and provides easy access to the message board discussions for that book, enabling readers to comment on and rate the books as they are reading

Pulse It will also feature a strong author presence, featuring popular authors such as Cassandra Clare, Scott Westerfeld, and Holly Black, who can set up their own profile pages, write blog posts, get feedback and communicate directly with their teen fans as the members are reading the books.

In addition to reading, networking, and expressing themselves with online friends, Pulse It members will be rewarded for their involvement on the site by earning points for various activities (reviewing a book, friending another member, posting to a message board, providing feedback, etc). Each month, members will be eligible for prizes such as free bonus (physical) books, and those with the highest point totals will achieve greater status in the community over time.
