Gwendolyn Hooks

Teacher-turned-author, Hooks has written fiction and nonfiction for children, sharing stories about pets, friendship, and family. Her picture book biography, Tiny Stitches-The Life of Medical Pioneer Vivien Thomas, is an NAACP Image Award. Gwendolyn is caught reading The Other Side by Jacqueline Woodson.

The Brown Bookshelf is designed to push awareness of the myriad Black voices writing for young readers.
