Tameka Fryer Brown

Known for her debut, Around Our Way on Neighbors’ Day, Brown has been proudly writing picture books since. Her recent work, Brown Baby Library, was named one of NPR’s 100 Favorite Books for Young Readers. Tameka is caught reading Unspeakable: The Tulsa Race Massacre by Carole Boston Weatherford.

The Brown Bookshelf is designed to push awareness of the myriad Black voices writing for young readers. A leader in the children’s book diversity movement, they were the 2019 winners of the CBC Diversity Outstanding Achievement Award, a partner of the Children’s Book Council on book lists and program sponsorships, and, now, an Every Child a Reader and Get Caught Reading partner.
